Nationwide’s personal lines property claims associates process all property claims submitted by our policyholders. Your interests and background can play a part in your ability to work in claims. If you like to tinker around the house, consider property claims. We investigate the loss, evaluate the damage and assign an estimated value.

As a claims professional for Nationwide, you’ll work directly with almost every department, allowing you to build relationships throughout the company as you advance your career.

This is a work from home opportunity servicing the DC/Northern Virginia market.The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of Xactimate. Construction and Claims experience is desired.

This position can be filled at a lower level based on experience/qualifications.

We are growing our Claims team in Northern Virginia where we support our members who own Nationwide’s property insurance.

We have fun here working together as a team while also realizing the importance of working independently. Flexibility and initiative are the keys to ensuring customer satisfaction - accurate claim processing the first time, every time.

The main goal of this team is to deliver thoughtful, comprehensive service that exceeds customer expectations during stressful situations.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Claims Leader; you have no direct reports.

You should also have:

  • A high school diploma - and preferably some college coursework or degree

  • Required state licensing or willingness to obtain it - which we help you with!

  • Previous customer facing experience

  • General knowledge of insurance policies and business practices with excellent customer service

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with multiple parties

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and take ownership of decisions

Job Summary

A typical day in the life of a Claims:

  • Hitting the road to manages a case load of Property claims, providing full service while remaining positive, we call this delivering an On Your Side experience

  • Provides service via phone and email communications, in addition to face to face

  • Determining proper coverages

  • Ensures accommodations for the member

  • Maintains knowledge of industry repair procedures and local market pricing

  • Collaborating with policyholders, claimants, agents, and adjusters throughout process

  • Submits incident reports, reinsurance reports, and other information to claims leaders

  • Teaming up with internal departments to identify fraud and subrogation instances

  • Jumping in to complete other tasks as needed

Job Conditions

A field based role that will include property damage assessments that include working on roofs, entering flooded spaces, fire damage, or severe weather damage.
