Nationwide is hiring a Manager, Indemnity (Specialty - Asbestos) in Wausau, WI. Qualified CandidatesMUST HAVEstrong claims handling experience (e.g., 8+ years of claims handling experience, large complex claims experience, etc.). Asbestos or Environmental Claims handlingexperience and/or Leadership experience preferred.

JOB SUMMARY: Manages a Nationwide Indemnity specialty claims unit in support of as environmental, construction defect, or asbestos claims. Ensures that the best possible measures are taken to minimize claims liability.RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Reports to Reports to Claims Director.DIRECT REPORTS:JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Assists with the review and approval of all coverage decisions and all settlements.2. Negotiates claims for settlements in excess of $2.0M up to $30.0M.3. Works with actuarial to identify short (1-3 years) and long-term (up to 30 years) trends to forecast claims payouts, both in terms of timing amounts.4. Responsible for establishing and achieving unit goals which are consistent with NW Indemnity goals, mission and objectives.5. Delivers a positive On-Your-Side customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.6. Identifies, develops and retains high potential/high performing associates who have the potential for or are ready to fill critical roles in the organization.7. Responsible for the management of associates including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.8. Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:Education: Undergraduate studies in related field with degree and post-graduate studies preferred.Licenses/Designations: State licensing where required. Studies toward professional designations, such as ARE, CPCU, IIA, and/or AEI preferred.Experience: Eight years related claims specialty experience; legal background beneficial. Management or team leadership experience required.Knowledge: Knowledge of property casualty claims with emphasis on environmental claims. Relevant professional designations highly desirable.Skills/Competencies: Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide exemplary service by informing customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Demonstrated decision-making skills including the ability to negotiate, analyze and approve claims settlements. Ability to lead and manage staff in all aspects of specialty claims operations.
